Project Financing
A project of this size is difficult to finance exclusively with public funds. A private-public partnership will no doubt be required to raise the needed capital, estimated to be approximately CAD$1.65 billion (for the viaduct only).

Possible financing options include:

-government could redirect 2 cents a litre of the current gas tax collected in Toronto, for a period of 5 years.

-the huge reclaimed footprint of the (demolished) elevated expressway will be a tantalizing prospect for private developers as will other opportunities associated with the project (see Lakeshore Mall, skyPATH and OTHER OPPORTUNITIES such as habitable pylons).

- another, perhaps less desirable option, would be to charge a vehicle toll of $0.50 to $1.00 (per complete trip along the viaduct).
