Lakeshore Rapid Transit line
The idea to build a new rapid transit line along the southern part of downtown Toronto is not new. Since the early eighties a downtown relief transit line has been planned that would help alleviate the tremendous congestion on the University-Yonge subway line.
The viaduct proposal provides a wonderful opportunity to bring this idea to life. Downtown needs more options for rapid transit, particularly given the explosion of new residential developments taking place south of Bloor Street and along the waterfront from Parkdale to the Portlands. The new Lakeshore Rapid Transit line will serve these new communities, and accomodate extensions north to the Bloor-Danforth subway line from the west and the east terminus.
