Perhaps the best idea to alleviate some congestion on the Gardiner is the (oft-delayed) proposal to extend Front Street west of Bathurst Street. Most experts agree that any proposal to modify the Gardiner would only succeed with the completion of this extension. The Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation sees the Front Street Extension as one of the most important infrastructure initiatives to revitalize the waterfront, however, the future of this project is still uncertain. A number of anti-road activists, plus the current price tag of over $250 million are stalling this initiative.
