Beautifying under the elevated Gardiner

Making the elevated Gardiner structure more pleasing and attractive for cyclists and pedestrians seems to be a logical and more affordable strategy. However, as this rendering suggests, a huge portion of Lakeshore Boulevard that runs underneath the Gardiner, would have to be removed to accomplish anything more than a “cosmetic” improvement. Such a reduction of road capacity would obviously increase traffic congestion and maintenance costs of the elevated expressway would eventually become a civic headache again.
